Jaspen Mackin
Owner and Practice Manager
Jaspen Mackin has been an integral part of Carbondale Animal Hospital since 2007 and proudly serves as the practice’s Owner and Practice Manager. A lifelong resident of Colorado’s Roaring Fork Valley, Jaspen’s story began beneath the sweeping peaks of the Grand Teton mountain range, where a childhood immersed in nature fostered a deep appreciation for the natural world and the connections that bring communities together.
After spending her early years exploring mountain landscapes with her family, Jaspen settled in Carbondale, Colorado, where she grew up enjoying soccer, theater, and countless adventures throughout the Rocky Mountains and Utah desert. She later attended Colorado Mountain College, where she pursued her passion for photography. While working in landscaping and the local restaurant industry, she also began building a lasting relationship with Carbondale veterinarian Ben Mackin. The two married in 2012 and welcomed their son in 2015.
With an intimate understanding of Carbondale Animal Hospital’s culture, philosophy, and growth over the years, Jaspen officially stepped into the role of Practice Manager in 2023. She is dedicated to preserving the hospital’s legacy of compassionate, high-quality veterinary care while fostering meaningful relationships with clients and their pets. While she certainly enjoys spending time with the “goodest pups” and the cutest feline toe beans in town, Jaspen believes that people are at the heart of veterinary medicine. Building trust, supporting pet parents, and creating a welcoming experience for every family who walks through the door are among her greatest professional passions.
Outside of the clinic, Jaspen is endlessly fascinated by the natural world. She enjoys foraging for mushrooms, berries, and wild asparagus, identifying Colorado’s native wildflowers, and spending time in her flower and vegetable gardens, where she channels her creativity into beautiful container garden designs. Her curiosity extends beyond nature into the study of psychology, emotion research, philosophy, and intuitive practices, all of which deepen her appreciation for the complexities of the human experience.
Travel is another passion, particularly when shared with her son. Whether exploring a new culture, language, or landscape, Jaspen embraces every opportunity to learn from the world around her. Above all, she considers motherhood the most meaningful and transformative role of her life—a journey that continually inspires growth, curiosity, and gratitude. No matter where her next adventure leads, Jaspen remains committed to following her curiosity and finding wonder in both the extraordinary and the everyday.
